About 200 staff members, majority of them non-teaching, of the Bharathiar University observed a one-day 'hunger strike' on Wednesday, seeking a detailed probe into alleged irregularities and corruption in appointments.
Citing corruption and irregularities in the university, the association has placed demands with university vice-chancellor James G Pitchai. University Vice-Chancellor Dr James Pitchai promised to look into the issue and a team, consisting of Senate Members had been formed, to inquire into the charges.
The allegations include irregularities in appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff and illegal selling of answer scripts among others.
The university has already been facing numerous allegations over the last few months. These protests are the latest escalation. Pitchai's term as vice-chancellor comes to an end on September 21.
