The imprisoned Mokama MLA Anant Singh faced a tough time to settle in his new residence in Beur Jail. The Independent legislator was remanded to judicial custody for two weeks in connection with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case lodged against him by a Patna court on Sunday.
Singh found himself being under heavy attack from mosquitos along with heat and sweat on his first night which deprived him of good sleep. This may raise the concern of Singh using health as a reason to get out of jail and shift into a hospital.
Anant Singh is no stranger to prison, having been behind bars in 2015. However, Singh is used to a luxurious life with air-conditioned room and vehicle and has found himself struggling to adapt.
Being an MLA, Singh has been kept in the divisional ward where he was given a post, a sheet, a fan and also a TV on his demand. He watched the news and after being denied a request for dishes of his choice, ate what was given to other inmates.
Singh got the company of former MP Vijay Krishna, who is sentenced in the murder case as his neighbour and Rajaballabh Yadav, a former RJD MLA who is serving a sentence for sexual abuse of a minor. The trio shared their griefs and discussed the current progress in their cases.
Singh also cited the need for him to access information relating his case and requested a newspaper to be given along with morning tea. Since he cannot read, he sought help from his cellmate to read him the paper.
