A drive launched in February to verify motorcycles in Delhi has helped the police catch 243 criminals and bring down the crime rate by 29%. Till September 15, Delhi police caught 141 people, of whom 102 had cases against them.

“Crimes committed using two-wheelers has dipped by 29% whereas snatching cases have decreased by 17%, “said a police officer. “The drive was started with the aim of catching criminals who use motorcycles.” During verification, the police checked whether motorcycles had been stolen and were being used for robbery.

“If someone owns a motorcycle and has no income, he will have to answer how he bought the vehicle. We take action if no answer is forthcoming, “said an officer. The police also check bike numbers to see if they match with their database of stolen bikes.
