Bio-tech research at DAVV is preferred destination for many foreign students

Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya’s (DAVV) School of Biotechnology is nowadays most preferred institute to pursue research work by foreign students.

The department is popularly known as enzyme laboratory for its specialisation on enzymes. In the past four years, the institute has received eight applications from foreign students.

Taking immense pride, head of department (HOD) Dr Anil Kumar said, “In the recent years, the institute has received considerable number of applications from foreign students to pursue their researches. It is not a coincidence rather it’s the quality of teachers and the research facility of the department that is attracting them.”

The institute has received applications from students from various countries like Cameroon, Sudan, Iran, Nigeria and Bangladesh.

The biotech department is already glorified with the completion of PhD of a Nepalese student named Krityanand Kumar Mahatman in the year 2010 and an Ethiopian Professor, Dr Abebe G Demissie pursuing his post doctorate research in the institute at present.

“A Bangladeshi student’s PhD application has already been accepted and he will be joining the department in July to do his research on his selected subject”, added the HOD.

“We have academic collaborations with University of Poitiers, France, University of Saskatchewan, University of Mangosuthu, South Africa and Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic that enables to enhance our knowledge and make our students aware about the new researches being carried out around the world,” said Dr Anil.

He further said that besides foreign institutions, the biotech department of the university has collaborations with prominent national institutions like Institute of Integrative Omics and Apllied Biotechnology, West Bengal and Institute of Transgenic Life Sciences, Lucknow.

The students have also agreed that it is the quality of teaching and research facilities being provided by the institute that is giving it global recognition.

“The research facility being provided by the institute are of high quality added with the faculties who support the students at every level’, said M.Sc student, Sapna Sugandhi.

Another M.Sc student in the biotechnology department, Rekha said that the institute has done a commendable research work with the limited but high quality research facilities in the institute.
