The incident took place in Ward 3 of Sainthia Municipality, where the victim lived with her two children, as her husband works in another state.

Yet another brutal rape complaint was made by a 28-year-old woman on Monday. A resident of Sainthia of West Bengal's Birbhum district, the victim, a housewife, was allegedly gangraped by her former lover and his friends. As per her statement made to the police, the accused also shoved a liquor bottle up her private part.

The incident took place in Ward 3 of Sainthia Municipality, where the victim lived with her two children, as her husband works in another state. Police said that according to her complaint, she was sleeping alone in her house when the incident took place; her children were away at a relative's house. "Her complaint states that she was asleep when at about 1.30 am on Monday, one Tarak Bhaskar, along with two others forced into her room. They dragged her to the adjoining room, gagged and bound her and then took turns to rape her. Later, they shoved a liquor bottle inside her private part and fled," said a senior official of the district police. She added that the accused were in an inebriated state.

"She said there were three people and the prime accused, Tarak Bhaskar (35), has been arrested. A case has been registered. We are looking for the other two accused. The victim has been hospitalised," said N Sudheer Kumar, SP, Birbhum.

The victim had complained that Bhaskar, who was her former lover, had been disturbing her for some days although they parted ways long ago. "She said that he had also assaulted her at a bus stand in the vicinity on Saturday when she didn't respond to his advances," an official of Sainthia police station said.

Her daughter saw her lying on the ground and alerted neighbours, who took her to a hospital. Hospital sources said that she might need to be operated urgently because her condition is deteriorating, but isn't strong enough to be shifted to any other hospital.
