BJP demands for a CBI enquiry to probe Sunanda Pushkar's death

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday demanded for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Junior Education Minister Shashi Tharoor.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday demanded for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Junior Education Minister Shashi Tharoor. BJP's demand comes after the viscera report stated there was no overdose of medicines, deepening the mystery surrounding her death.

Sunanda, was found dead in a New Delhi hotel room after she sent out tweets suggesting he (Tharoor) was involved in an affair with a Pakistan-based journalist.

Sunanda, who was 52, probably died of drug poisoning, as said by two officials in January, citing the post mortem report submitted to a magistrate leading an inquest into the death.

BJP leader K.J. Alphons, while talking to mediapersons in Thiruvananthapuram said that there were many contradictions in several reports.

"I really think there are far too many contradictions in the police report. In the autopsy report it was said that it was a sudden and unnatural death due to overdose of medicine. Now the viscera report has come and the viscera report says there was no overdose of medicines at all. So there were far too many contradictions. Therefore the BJP is demanding that there should be a CBI enquiry. I would not like to make any personal comment at all because let the CBI enquire and come out with the truth whatever it is," said Alphons.

However, the Delhi police commissioner, Bhim Sain Bassi, said the case was still under investigation.

"We are investigating the case under Section 174 and after this report comes, the doctors will go through the report and they would advice the police, which will be considered during the probe," said Bassi.

Tharoor's wife Sunanda was embroiled in a spat with the Pakistan-based journalist, Mehr Tarar, whom she accused of stalking her husband in a series of Twitter posts.
