NAGPUR: With the ongoing rift in the ruling Congress in Maharashtra following the voice of dissidence raised by state Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, the BJP on Saturday demanded a fresh mandate in the state.
Speaking on Friday, BJP leaders Gopinath Munde and party's state unit president Nitin Gadkari said that developmental activities in the state had 'suffered' due to the internal bickerings between the Congress leaders.
They demanded dissolution of the Democratic Front government and sought fresh elections to the state assembly.
Rane had in New Delhi on Friday attacked Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh for his style of functioning.
"The problems of state have multiplied and Rane's open attack against the state leadership, particularly Vilasrao Deshmukh, has exposed the ongoing rift in the ruling Congress and DF government for the first time," Munde, also the former Maharashtra deputy chief minister, said.
"The basic question is not whether Rane becomes Chief Minister or not, but it is the state which has suffered due to their (Rane and Deshmukh) internal bickerings," Munde said.
Gadkari alleged that the state's debt burden during the Congress-NCP regime had gone up to Rs 1.47 lakh crores and the law and order situation had deteriorated.
"The outbursts of Rane has vindicated the opposition's stand," Gadkari said.
