After Amrita Fadnavis came under fire for organising a Christmas event, on Saturday, it was the turn of BJP Mumbai President and Bandra West MLA Ashish Shelar to face the heat on Twitter.

Right-wingers on Twitter seemed upset by Shelar supporting a musical event titled "Prabhu Yeshu Janmtosav" on December 17 at Girgaum Chowpatty. A lot of right-wingers and BJP supporters appeared to be angered by the BJP leader hosting an event which they felt promoted ‘evangelists’ and demanded an explanation from him and Maharashtra Chief Minis Devendra Fadnavis.

Another claimed that while BJP General Secretary was uniting India with India Ideas Conclave 2017, here BJP was ‘supporting those who want to break India’.

The criticism is rather bizarre considering Bandra West has a sizeable chunk of Christian constituents who probably voted for Shelar.

Here are the tweets:

Earlier, Amruta Fadnavis had dismissed the criticism she faced saying: “I will do what exactly my mind tells me. I will not be swayed by disruptive criticism. I have a mind of my own and I will work as per that.”

Trouble began when Amruta tweeted and posted photographs of a Christmas event organised by a FM radio station on December 12. She was assailed by an array of abusive posts, some of which questioned her faith before marriage.

Amruta had told DNA: “The motive behind attending the function was to give Christmas gifts to poor children. I was approached by this professional radio channel. During any festival, we have to do something good. We have to share happiness, whether it is Diwali, Janmashtami or any other festival.”

Recently, carol singers and priests were allegedly beaten up and detained in Satna, MP over what right-wing groups claim was forced conversions.

Suspected Bajrang Dal activists were alleged to have beaten up some Christians, including 10 priests, and torched their car outside a police station in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh last night over alleged conversion of Hindus to Christianity.
