Criticising the manner in which Jaswant Singh was sacked from BJP, Union minister for Non-Conventional Energy, Farooq Abdullah, today said the party required to do deep introspection.
"The manner in which Jaswant Singh, a man who dedicated 30 years of his life to the party, was expelled is not correct. BJP needs to do some serious introspection on how it can contribute to unite a diverse country like ours," Abdullah, who also served in AB Vajpayee's cabinet during the NDA regime, said.
He refuted claims that the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests were not successful. "Of course, they were successful. The aim was to prove that India was self-sufficient to protect itself. It was not meant to wage a war against anybody," he said adding that he had visited the site of the nuclear test.
He was responding to claims of K Santhanam, the Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO) representative for Pokhran II, that the tests were not a full success.
Abdullah was in the city to participate in the Iftar and Ganesh puja hosted by Mumbai Congress president Kripashankar Singh. Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat was also present.
