Banking on the exit polls result showing a great victory in the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has planned unprecedented celebrations in the national capital on May 16. Sweets distribution, petal shower, firecrackers and a large convoy of vehicles would mark the massive victory procession of its prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi who will reach Delhi on May 17.
Over 25 thousand party workers will participate in the victory procession that would start from the IGI airport to the BJP headquarters on Ashoka Road.
Delhi BJP leaders are entrusted with the responsibility of making BJP's victory celebration a huge success. BJP's central leadership has given a free hand to the local unit as far an expenditure goes.
"Receiving a green signal from national leadership, individual leaders are on shopping spree. Several leaders have started buying fire crackers. Others are busy in putting Modiji's hoardings across the city or buying flowers and garlands. Money is not a constraint for the victory celebration and leaders are spending on their own," said a BJP insider.
BJP's national general secretary, Ramlal, held a meeting with the Delhi BJP office-bearers on Wednesday evening to discuss minute details of the victory celebration.
"Several leaders informed us that they have purchased fire crackers worth Rs 50,000 or above. While others are spending minimum five to ten thousand on fire crackers. By a conservative estimate party leaders are buying fire crackers worth around Rs 15 lakh," an office-bearer of Delhi BJP said. Delhi BJP has given orders for 1,100 kgs of laddu to a caterer in Old Delhi. They will be distributed once the election results are announced in party favour.
Modi's hoardings will put up across the city, especially on the road leading from the IGI Airport to Ashoka Road via Gujarat Bhawan.
To announce Modi's arrival in style, the BJP functionaries have planned to portray Modi as a lion on hoardings. "Hoardings will put at all the prominent places, market and places frequented by people," he added.
