Even as senior BJP leader LK Advani’s rath yatra hit a speed barrier as BS Yeddyurappa was packed off to jail after his bail plea was rejected in Bangalore, the BJP tried to put up a brave face saying the BJP is on an “mission against corruption.”
The BJP leaders in Delhi said the charges against Yeddyurappa were still not proved, hence, he cannot be pronounced guilty.
“When we are fighting against corruption, it is not a question of embarrassment. It is a question of mission. It is the same mission for which Advaniji has undertaken his yatra,” BJP spokesperson JP Nadda said. “We will fight it out legally, but keeping high moral grounds Yeddyurappa had resigned,” he added.
The Congress, meanwhile, was clearly pleased that the BJP stands exposed on the issue of corruption. “The BJP could never muster the political courage to remove him. Even now they have the political compulsion of backing him,” said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
“Perhaps it would have been far more appropriate if the anti-corruption yatra would have been first undertaken in Karnataka, Uttarakhand, and Punjab where BJP ministers and functionary have been indicted on charges of corruption,” Manish Tewari said.
