The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looks all set to steal march over its rival Congress with regard to offices. Come Christmas, the party will have an ultra modern and swanky corporate like headquarters in the national capital.
December 25 also happens to be the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and so it is fitting that the BJP will shift to its plush HQ to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, named after one of the founders of Jana Sangh (BJP's former avatar) from the current 11 Ashok road.
Incidentally, the land where the headquarters is being constructed was given to the BJP in 2008 during the UPA regime along with other political parties with an aim to decongest the Lutyens zone. But it's only the BJP that started constructing the new office on August 10 last year with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying down the foundation stone.
Though the construction is in full swing and the structure of the buildings is nearing completion, it is expected to take more time to have full functionality. A BJP leader, however said that its inauguration is expected to be done by PM Modi on December 25.
According to renowned Mumbai based architects Nandapurkar & Associates, the building "will be traditional on the outside, but completely modern with its gadgetry and connectivity."
Constructed on an 8000-square-metre plot with 70 percent green area, the seven floor tall office is going to have three towers.
It will have 45 chambers for senior leaders and office bearers and 25 rooms for party karyakartas from States to do their work while in Delhi. Besides, there will be conference halls, a media room, a library, a room to hold exhibitions, studios and eateries. The design motif will be lotus, the party's symbol, clearly visible from far off. The whole office will be fully wi-fi enabled.
Many of its portions will have restricted biometrics based access based on the need to entry basis. Sources say that while BJP president Amit Shah's chambers will be on the top floor, each of the General Secretaries will have rooms with an en suite bathroom.
