The BJP on Friday won both the Lok Sabha seats in Goa, including the crucial Catholic-dominated South Goa constituency.

Bharatiya Janata Party's Narendra Savoikar got 1,98,776 votes, beating his nearest rival Aleixo Reginaldo of the Congress by 32,310 votes in South Goa, considered a traditional Congress bastion.

In North Goa, BJP's Shripad Naik, a three-time MP and a former union minister, won by 91,472 votes, beating his nearest rival Ravi Naik of the Congress.

Responding to the loss, the Congress said it respects the verdict of the people. "The Congress would come back stronger," said party spokesperson Durgadas Kamat.

Savoikar told reporters that the victory was due to Narendra Modi's charisma.

"It is a result of the hard work put in by Modi and how he campaigned across the country. The amount of effort and enthusiasm of party workers was also responsible for our victory," he said.
