NARSINGHPUR/MP: As many as 10 BJP workers were injured, nine of them critically, in an attack allegedly by workers of Uma Bharti-led Bharatiya Janshakti Party over a temple land dispute near here, police said on Monday.
The alleged BJS workers fired eight shots and pelted stones at the house of BJP district general secretary Mohan Singh Patel in Gotegaon tehsil, where party workers had gathered last night, Superintendent of Police V K Shrivastava said.
Both groups had picked up a fight on Sunday, when BJP workers visited Hardol ward to select land for a temple, he said.
Nine of the ten people injured in the attack were referred to Jabalpur in critical condition, Shrivastava said, adding that cases were registered against 42 people, who were yet to be arrested.
Protesting the incident, a BJP-sponsored bandh was being observed in Gotegaon on Monday.
Additional forces were deployed in the town and no untoward incident was reported as yet, he said.
