Senior BJP leader LK Advani wound up his three-day yatra in Punjab amid protests. Black flags and sloganeering marked almost all places of his visit, which concluded at Chandigarh on Wednesday.

More than two dozen protesters were rounded up as Advani’s rath entered the city to address a public meeting.

On Tuesday, it was an unpleasant welcome for the BJP leader at Batala as he found himself gheraoed by over 25 Akali Dal (Amritsar) activists who waved black flags at him. The police was quick to react and rounded up the activists. The incident occurred while Advani was delivering a speech after his jan chetna yatra.

At the Golden Temple in Amritsar, veteran Akali leader Simranjit Singh Mann and his supporters started raising slogans, ‘Advani Murdabad’, ‘Advani Go Back’ and ‘Khalistan Zindabad’, as soon as he entered the temple. SGPC task force and policemen in civvies cordoned off the protesters.

Advani faced another round of protests outside the information office in Amritsar where the Akali Dal (Delhi) activists raised slogans against him and  alleged that he “provoked” the government to launch Operation Bluestar in 1984, a charge which they attribute to some references made by the BJP leader in his autobiography.
