Utsav Bhasin (20), the man allegedly responsible for Singh’s condition was granted bail hours after his arrest

NEW DELHI; As Anuj Singh, a victim of Thursday’s BMW hit-and-run case, battles for life at the AIIMS centre, industrialist, NK Bhasin’s son, Utsav Bhasin (20), the man allegedly responsible for Singh’s condition was granted bail hours after his arrest on Friday as the IPC sections - 279 (rash and negligent driving) and 338 (causing grievous injury) - under which he was registered are both bailable offences.

Bhasin was arrested from the Inter State Bus Terminus at Kashmere Gate in Delhi.  Police said Bhasin was planning to leave the city to evade arrest. “Bhasin felt he would have been nabbed had he tried to leave on a train or a plane and boarding an inter-state bus would be a better option,” said a senior police official.

While police conducted mandatory tests on Bhasin at AIIMS soon after his arrest, they could not establish if he was driving in an inebriated state. “He had been away for more than a day after the accident and tracing alcohol in the body after 24 hours of consumption is difficult,” said a senior police official.  Investigations revealed the girl in the car was his sister, Sakshi.
