NEW DELHI: The mutilated body of a 10-year-old boy, who was abducted from Delhi on October 15, was found in the Sonepat district of Haryana late on Tuesday night.
Vipul Kansal, a Class IV student of Delhi's elite GD Goenka School, was kidnapped from outside his residence in north-west Delhi.

Police have arrested Siddharth Jaitley, a business acquaintance of the victim's father, Parvinder Kansal, on charges of kidnapping and murder. “Jaitley and the victim's father were in the wholesale drugs supply business.

Jaitley suffered huge losses in his business and was in heavy financial debt, while Kansal's business was thriving. Jealousy drove Jaitley to abduct Vipul. He then demanded a ransom of Rs1.5 crores from the Kansals,” said Manish Agrawal, deputy commissioner, northwest district.

During interrogation, Jaitley told the police that he was taking Vipul to his godown when the boy fainted. “Out of fear, Jaitley strangled Vipul to death and disposed off his body in Sonepat within a few hours of the abduction," said Agrawal.

To mislead the victim's family, Jaitley called Parvinder and demanded Rs1.5 crore as ransom. After several rounds of negotiations, Jaitley agreed to a ransom of Rs33 lakh and on October 16 told Parvinder to throw a bag containing the ransom amount from Ranjit Singh flyover. After collecting the money, Jaitley told the victim's family that Vipul would reach home in an hour.

Acting on the information provided to the police by the victim's family, the police followed Jaitley's car after he collected the bag and nabbed him at his residence. The ransom amount has been recovered.

But while the police are claiming that Jaitley abducted Vipul for money, the victim’s family members said: “It was not a matter of money. He murdered our child because of business rivalry since he could not bear to see us thriving.”
