Buoyed by the exit polls forecast of the BJP winning 20 to 23 of the total 28 seats in Karnataka, the state BJP is gearing up to form the government in the state after the poll results on May 23. Karnataka BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa recently said there is an "atmosphere" for his party to form the government.
Yeddyurappa also predicted that the longevity of the Congress-JD(S) coalition in the state would depend on the stand taken by about 20 "disgruntled" Congress legislators after the LS election results are announced on May 23.
He hinted his party's victory in the by-polls for Kundgol and Chincholi assembly constituencies. The former state chief minister predicted BJP's victory in both the seats. He also clarified that the ruling Congress will not succeed to split BJP.
Yeddyurappa's close confidante Shobha Karandlaje said the JD(S)-Congress government is anti-people and anti-farmers. It has not bothered to give relief to the drought-affected people. "Due to its internal contradictions, the JD(S)-Congress government will fall," she said.
However, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Dinesh Gundu Rao alleged that BJP has been making efforts to topple the Congress-JD(S) government. "The saffron party will not succeed in its fresh attempt too,'' he said.
State JD(S) leader, who is close to Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, also said the JD(S)-Congress government was on a firm wicket and it will foil BJP's attempt to destabilize it.
