After promising work permit visa of foreign countries to more than 20 aspirants, one Janak Patel, a resident of Smruti Darshan society in Ghodasar, allegedly vanished without fulfilling his promise.
One such aspirant, Chirag Shah, had contacted Patel at his rented office in Devnandan mall on Ashram road a few months back. According to Shah, Patel had taken Rs1 lakh as visa fee and promised him work permit visa.
However, Shah’s dreams were shattered when he learned that Patel had locked his office and vanished with the money. Finally, he lodged a complaint at Ellisbridge police on Sunday.
Investigation by police revealed that Patel had duped more than 15 such youngsters and vanished with Rs8-10 lakh. According to police, Patel ran his business for four to five months from the rented office, for which he used to pay a whopping Rs30,000 as monthly rent.
“Our investigation revealed that Patel’s father works as a conductor with AMTS. We also suspect the involvement of Patel’s brother in the whole fraud,” said J S Kandoriya, police sub-inspector of Ellisbridge, who has formed a team to look for Patel.
