CUTTACK: Orissa High Court has completed hearing on businessman Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra murder case and reserved its verdict on the plea made by the victim's wife.
The hearing on the murder case came to a conclusion on Wednesday following state government's submission of DNA test report of the body that was retrieved by the police in Jharkhand, about after a week of Mohapatra's kidnap in May, 2007.
Acording to reliable sources, a report from Central Forensic Laboratory, Hyderabad, has confirmed that the unidentified body belonged to Mohapatra.
The Keonjhar-based businessman was allegedly killed within a week after he was kidnapped for ransom from Bhubaneswar on May 26, 2007 night, sources added.
Mohapatra was shot dead and later his body was set on fire using petrol from his own vehicle with a motive to prevent identification. Police had also retrieved the body of Mohapatra's driver from the location.
In this connection, the police arrested some anti-socials including kendrapara-based mafia don Haider and another gangster from Cuttack. Initial investigation showed the businessman was kidnapped and the mafia don had demanded Rs two crore from the businessman's family for his release.
Mohapatra's wife Satyabhama has moved the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the death of her husband.
