Campaign begins for clean Gujarat

The state urban development & urban housing development department has planned a state-wide campaign in December 2010.

To promote a cleaner Gujarat, the state government has decided to launch 'Swarnim Nirmal Gujarat' campaign in December to mark the Gujarat golden jubilee celebrations.

The state urban development & urban housing development department has planned a state-wide campaign in December 2010 in which the municipal corporations, municipalities and all other local bodies will participate.

The urban development department has issued directives to all local bodies to gear up for the 'Swarnim Nirmal Gujarat' campaign. A highly placed source in the urban development department said, "During the month-long cleanliness campaign in December, there will be an awareness campaign for clean water and water conservation, green cities, green cover, energy conservation etc. The focus will be on cleanliness of public places, safe disposal of biomedical waste etc., in the first week.

"In the second week the focus will be on cleanliness of water bodies like ponds, water supply lines and creation of rain water conservation system. During the third week, the subject will be development of a green belt in urban areas,” the source said.
