In a bid for a successful 'Car-Free Day' in the city, Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai on Friday held an open session with MLAs and officials from PWD, MCD, NDMC, ASI and ITDP here.
The 'Car-free Day' will be observed on the road stretch between Red Fort and Tilag Marg from 7 am till noon on October 22, and no car will be allowed on this stretch.
Rai said that the AAP government was taking several steps for a stronger public transport system, adding that it was decided to increase the number of buses in the national capital.
PWD Minister Satyendar Jain also attended the meeting and discussed the preparations for the proposed 'Car-free Day'.
A senior government official said that in the meeting, participants felt that cars are one of the major reasons due to which pollution level is increasing in the capital.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will participate in a cycle rally on the same stretch till India Gate on October 22, he said.
The AAP government will also invite the Lt Governor, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Environment Minister Prakash Javedkar for the event.
