According to a notification issued by the commissioner, all the clubs are required to monitor and record the card games taking place on their premises and submit footage to the police on a regular basis.

The notification, issued on Wednesday, makes it mandatory to record all the tables of card games and submit the footage every Monday to the nearest police station for review.

The commissioner said that gambling is being carried out in many clubs under guise of card games played without money. "Recent raids on clubs like Sudama Resort in Ellisbridge area prove that people gamble inside the clubs. We must stop this practice going on in the name of card games," Sinha said.

The notification also asks club and gymkhana owners to furnish personal details of their administrative members.

Clubs are also required to submit details of any criminal records or cases against any members or the club in the past.

They have to submit the details to the police and get themselves registered on or before September 15. After the scrutiny and written permission from the CP, clubs can organize card games which do not violate provisions of the Prevention of Gambling Act.

Viraj Mehta, vice-president of Karnavati Club, said their cardroom is already equipped with CCTV cameras. "We already have seven days recording facility for our cardroom CCTV. So, it will not be a major problem for us to follow the notification," Mehta said.

However, Rajpath Club, another prominent club on the SG Highway, is worried. "We haven't put our cardroom under CCTV camera surveillance due to technical reasons.

But we will install them before the deadline to avoid any problems," said Paresh Dani, president of the club.
