Well-known cartoonist Kerala Varma, popularly known as Kevy, passed away in Kochi yesterday.
He was 86 and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, family sources said. His wife pre-deceased him.
A member of the Ananthapuram Kottaram in Haripad, Varma began his career with Sankar's Weekly. He was later appointed as the staff cartoonist of Eastern Economist.
An active member of the Cartoon Academy, Varma became famous with his pocket cartoons called 'Bharat Darshan' during the early 60s and 70s.
He had sketched cartoons against Indira Gandhi during the Emergency and was also imprisoned during that period.
Varma's cremation was held here yesterday.
