Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology to produce climate experts

Concerned about the effects of climate change and the challenges it poses, the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) on Friday announced the launch of a new faculty of environment and climate change studies.

This is being done taking into consideration the requirement for experts who deeply understand the subject of climate change. 
Talking about the significance of the programme, dean of the new
faculty, Shrawan Kumar Acharya said, "The country is incorporating concerns about climate change in all sectors of development. But there is a need for us to draw up a climate change education agenda and train professionals to effectively deal with risks that it poses.

“Beginning from this academic year, the faculty will offer a two-year masters programme in climate change and sustainable development and a one-year post graduate diploma in the same subject.

The programmes will accommodate a total of around 50 students.  Meeta Goel, co-coordinator of the course said that a survey conducted by them revealed that there is a requirement for such professionals in urban and local bodies like the AMC, planning agencies, research organisations, NGOs, various industries and banks among others. 

The programme will have faculties who are an expert in the field from IIMs and IITs and eminent experts from various
organisations as visiting faculties.

The Faculty of Technology Management (MTM) also launched a three-year part-time programme called Master of Technology Management Programme in Innovations and Entrepreneurship. Prof Harini Mittal said, "The new programme is designed to accommodate the working professionals as we have been getting many enquiries from them.”
