"The proposed Centre For Himalayan Studies in Uttarakhand is in the initial stages of its implementation. The Centre would first like to have a proposal from the state government clarifying whether it wants the Centre For Himalayan Studies to be established separately or within the premises of the FRI in Dehradun or the Almora based Vivekanand Institute, " the Chief Secretary said.

He said a decision in this regard will be taken after consulting Chief Minister Harish Rawat and a proposal will soon be forwarded to the Centre to speed up implementation of the ambitious project. A Centre for Himalayan Studies in Uttarakhand was one of the highlights of the Narendra Modi government's maiden general budget.
