The university beat institutes from Australia, Singapore, Sweden and USA to emerge a winner.

The Centre of Excellence in Urban Transport (CoE) at the Centre for Environment Planning and Technology (Cept) University has added one more feather to its cap. After the AMC shot to international fame, Cept has now won two international awards for innovation in design of the Bus Rapid Transit Service (BRTS).

On Thursday the CoE was selected for the international 'PT X 2 Knowledge and Research Award' at the 59th UTTP World Congress in Dubai. It was also awarded Daring Ambition Award at the regional level at the 59th UTTP World Congress in Dubai on April 4.

CoE beat the likes of Institute of Transport Studies in Australia, Land Transport Authority in Singapore, The Swedesh Public Transport Association in Sweden and University of Washington in USA.

Janmarg, Cept-CoE was selected for designing the BRT network in Ahmedabad. An official communiqué from Cept claims that the jury appreciated identification of key nodes in the city and connecting them through a comprehensive network. The network emphasised on connecting busy roads sans traffic jams.

Associate director of CEPT Shivanand Swamy said, "Receiving an award in a competition boosts the team's confidence. This award explains the fact that Cept goes behind class room activities. Here we are successfully implementing the vision set for the university's growth. CoE has invented a new design for public transport which is receiving appreciation and is being accepted as a model by other cities and countries as well," said Swamy.
