The students who protested and took part in the roadblock have apparently been detained by the police.

A dress code notice for female students, allegedly sent out by the management of Sai Ram Engineering College in Chennai, created a outrage on social media last week. The college management had refuted the allegation saying that the list being circulated was fake.

On Tuesday, numerous students from Sai Ram Engineering College protested the college dress code for women and staged a roadblock in the city. The students have said that heavy fines were being imposed on girls who wear jeans or leggings. Even those who speak to boys in class were reportedly being fined.

The students who protested and took part in the roadblock have been detained by the police, the report says.

The list doing the rounds on social media had 14 rules for girls, that include no leggings, high heels, short kurtas or patialas. Girls were also not be allowed to wear large watches or leave their hair loose, according to the alleged college notice.
