The Chhattisgarh government on Friday gave its approval for shifting its secretariat on Nov 1 to Naya Raipur, which will replace Raipur as the new state capital, an official statement said. The secretariat is housed in an old government hospital building ever since the state came into existence on Nov 1, 2000.

Naya Raipur, 20 km from Raipur, has been designed on the lines of Malaysia's hi-tech capital complex at Putrajaya outside Kuala Lumpur, and is expected to cater to the infrastructural needs of industry and trade in the region.

Naya Raipur Development Agency is the nodal agency that will implement the new capital project, being built on an area of 8,000 hectares between National Highway-6 and National Highway-43 and in close proximity to the airport.

Naya Raipur will be the administrative nerve centre of Chhattisgarh with the state secretariat, police headquarters, legislative assembly, Raj Bhavan and offices of heads of departments.
