St George church in Navi Mumbai's Panvel area was attacked by miscreants on Saturday morning.
The CCTV footage found from the church premises show three men hurling stones at the church at 1.30 am on Friday night. During this attack, a statue of St George which is placed right outside the church enclosed in a glass box was damaged. An FIR was lodged at Khandeshwar police station against unknown people. The police has started probe in this case.
Since the miscreants were masked, it is difficult for the police to identify those involved in this attack.
The leaders at the church are hinting at possible political involvement.
Recently an under-construction church in a village in Hisar district of Haryana was vandalised. In the wake of subsequent "attacks" on churches, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the government would not tolerate any discrimination on the basis of caste and religion and directed the Delhi police to ensure security of churches and other places of worship.
