Clashes between police and supporters of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani protesting his continued house arrest. left at least ten people injured at several places in Kashmir valley today.

The clashes took place in Srinagar, Sopore, Baramulla and Anantnag shortly after Friday prayers, official sources said.

They said police fired teargas shells and used batons to disperse the protestors who started stone-pelting after the cops stopped them from taking out rallies in support of their demand for lifting of restrictions on the movement of Geelani, chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference.

While four persons were injured in police action in Sopore, three each were injured in Srinagar and Baramulla old town, they said.

Geelani, arrested under the Public Safety Act, was released after 95 days on September nine, but was put under house arrest at his Hyderpora residence the next day.

His house arrest also led to violent clashes on September21 shortly after Eid-ul-fitr prayers.
