In fresh controversy, reports have emerged from BJP-ruled Chhattissgarh of a class 10 textbook that not only promotes patriarchy but is also blatantly misogynist in nature.
According to a report in a leading daily, the class 10 social science textbook says that 'working women are one of the causes of unemployment in the country'. The book has been published by the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education.
The report also said that a young teacher Soumya Garg in tribal Jashpur district has confronted the government over the issue and has petitioned the state women's commission.
In a chapters on economic problems and challenges, the textbook explains that the percentage of unemployment after independence increased as women in all sectors started working.
Speaking to the daily, Garg questioned whether the percentage of unemployment was measured on parameters that kept only men in mind. She also said that women had as much right to jobs as men.
Garg has, however, not received any reply from the women's commission to the letter she had written a month ago. A women's commission member told the daily that she would personally write to Chief Minister Raman Singh and Education Minister Kedar Kashyap to consider the matter.
