NEW DELHI: A Delhi Court on Tuesday remanded Mohammad Sadiq Sheikh, an alleged co-founder of Indian Mujahideen, to 14 days police custody to facilitate his interrogation over his alleged involvement in September 19 serial blasts here.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaberi Baweja sent Sheikh, who was arrested by Mumbai police, to police custody for custodial interrogation till Dec 1.

The Delhi Police claimed that suspicion about Sheikh's involvement in the serial blasts cropped up following the interrogation of five accused arrested in the city after Jamia Nagar encounter in which three suspected terrorists were gunned down.

The police contended that they need to take Sheikh to Bangluru and Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh to find out his involvement in the serial blasts.

The Delhi police told the court that Sheikh was sending electronic messages claiming responsibility for blasts on part of his organisation Indian Mujahideen.

Sheikh, who was arrested in Mumbai, is a native of Azamgarh. According to Mumbai Police, he went to Pakistan in 2004 and received nine months' training in handling arms and explosives in camps organised by Lashkar-e-Taiba.
