In a midnight operation at Jaitapur in coastal Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, Coast Guard sea divers recovered the body of a drowned policeman.
"At about 11 pm last night, police control room sent a distress call to Coast Guard Station Commander at Ratnagiri, requesting assistance to locate and recover a missing policeman," a Coast Guard spokesperson said.
A team of four Coast Guard sea divers was sent and the body of constable Prashant Vichare (26) was recovered from the sea after a four-hour operation, the spokesperson said.
"The entire operation was conducted in an extremely inclement weather in low visibility conditions due to darkness," he said.
Coast Guard was also the first agency to respond during the Mahad bridge collapse incident last year, the spokesperson noted.
