The intense cold wave prevailing in the state continued on Saturday as well with a fall of 5.5 degrees Celsius temperature in the state capital. The Pink City recorded 6.7 degrees Celsius minimum temperature on Saturday. Meanwhile, Mount Abu remained coldest place in the state recording 0.5 degree Celsius temperature.
Saturday’s night was coldest of this season as mercury dipped in almost all areas of state. All districts, barring Kota, recorded minimum temperature below 10 degree Celsius and maximum temperature could not cross 23 degree Celsius. Kota registered 11.6 degree Celsius. Here, light rainfall was also witnessed.
The mercury reached in minus below 0 degree in Mount Abu, the sole hill station in the desert state. Here, the minimum temperature recorded at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius which is lowest of state, said the MeT office. The ground frost found frozen on vehicles and harvesting when people woke up in morning.
After Abu, Churu experienced biting cold wave where mercury settled at 0.6 degree Celsius. It is followed by Sriganganagar at 1.7 degree and Pilani at 2.9 degree Celsius. Jaisalmer, Ajmer and Barmer recorded minimum of 6, 7.8 and 8.4 degrees Celsius respectively. The MeT Department predicts no respite from the prevailing cold conditions during next 24 hour.
The Pink City, meanwhile, continuously reeled under cold wave recording 6.7 degree Celsius.
Despite weekend and ongoing winter vacation the locals remained confined indoors and least footfall was observed on streets. Though, a sunny Saturday gave some respite to Jaipurites and the city recorded a maximum temperature at 22.5 degrees Celsius.
