Stand up comedian; Jaspal Bhatti used the platform of a carnival here on Saturday (November 28) to poke fun at the government's failure to control inflation.
Bhatti set up a stall at the Chandigarh Carnival displaying vegetables, pulses and vegetable oil and invited onlookers to throw rings around them and win the costly items as prizes.
"This carnival here has given us a good opportunity to set up our stall here. Today, the common man is no more in a position to buy daal (pulses), chawaal (rice) and ghee (vegetable oil), so we are giving the people a chance to come here, play the game and win vegetables.
You come here and win a tomato, go back home and please your wife with it. A 'Madness testing centre', under the 'Mad Art Jaspal Bhatti Film School' has also been set up here, where if you are film crazy enough then you can win staple foods as awards in every one hour," said Bhatti.
Bhatti also requested the banks and the other financial institutions to grant loans at economical rates to buy vegetables and grocery.
"On behalf of Diabetic Patients Association, we are grateful to the government to proscribe sugar because Diabetics do not like to see someone enjoying it they themselves cannot.
I would also like to suggest all the males to not use metaphors like sweetheart, sweety, sugar, honey for their wives or girlfriends as there might be a possibility that the government would levy that too," he said. The two-day long Chandigarh carnival comes to an end today.
