Commonwealth Games scam: CBI gets custody of Kalmadi aide

Shekhar Deorukhkar is the fifth person to be arrested in the CWG scam in which nearly Rs630 crore worth contracts were given to firms at exorbitant rates.

On Saturday, the CBI was given a five-day-long police custody of Shekhar Deorukhkar, personal assistant to the CWG organising committee chairman, Suresh Kalmadi.

Deorukhkar was arrested by the agency on Friday from his house in Pune in connection with an FIR pertaining to the scam.

Deorukhkar is the fifth person to be arrested in the CWG scam in which nearly Rs630 crore worth contracts were given to firms at exorbitant rates.

Deorukhkar was produced before the duty magistrate by the agency.
“He was given five days of police remand till February 17,’’ said a CBI official.

Deorukhkar who was posted as OC director in New Delhi till last year, was picked up from his residence in Pune, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi
