Yet another incident of an elected member of the ruling party beating up an employee on duty has been reported. This time, it involves controversial corporator of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Saijpur Bogha Krishna Thakar. Cross complaints have been filed with Naroda police about the incident that took place on Tuesday morning.
Jaydeep Vaghela, who works as a sanitary sub-inspector in Saijpur ward, lodged a complaint against BJP corporator Thakar, her husband Praful Thakar and two others for beating him. Thakar's husband has also lodged a cross complaint.
A source close to the development said that Thakar had earlier filed a complaint with the deputy health officer of north zone about disposal of garbage in her area. Having received the complaint, Vaghela was sent to address the matter.
However, Thakar's husband and son had a heated argument with the employees on duty and started abusing him. "They wanted the work to be done at their own whim and fancy but Vaghela refused and so they started thrashing him," said sources.
Vaghela was so scared that he was not ready to lodge a police complaint against the powerful politician, said the source. "He agreed to lodge a complaint only after assurance of support from his department," said sources.
It should be noted that Thakar and her husband have been accused of harassment by both the people and AMC officials of their ward. This is Thakar's second term as a corporator from Saijpur Bogha ward. She was elected on a Congress ticket to the AMC in 2005 and joined the BJP just before the AMC elections in 2010. She got elected in 2010 as well.
