NEW DELHI: In order to prevent traffic violators from getting driving licences from another state after its cancellation in a particular state, the Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Centre to computerise all transport offices of the country within a year.
"We are of the opinion that computerisation is necessary to have data-sharing facilities with all the state and regional transport offices," a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna said.
The Bench directed the Union Transport ministry to complete the project within a year.
"The computerisation and connectivity of transport offices are to be done within a year. The Secretary of the Union Transport Ministry shall monitor the project and file a report in four months," the Bench said.
The Court passed the order when informed by the city government that traffic rule violators, whose licences were cancelled by it, managed to get another from neighbouring states.
The government also informed the court that actions have been taken against violators of traffic rules in 952 cases out of 992 reported this year so far.
