One of the accomplices of con man Ashok Jadeja, who duped people in the name of God and was the mastermind behind a multi-crore scam, escaped from the police lockup in the Satellite area of the city, police said today.

Hakambhai Rathod, one of the agents of Jadeja, escaped late last night from the lockup, they said.

Rathod was arrested last year.

According to police, FIR has been lodged against assistant sub-inspector Uday Sinh and constable Pratap for showing negligence on duty.

They said all the police stations have been informed about the incident, and efforts are on to trace the fugitive.

Jadeja, who was the master mind behind an inter-state scam, has several cases registered against him in various states.

Till now, the police have arrested over 20 persons, including five agents and some of Jadeja's family members, who were allegedly involved in the nationwide scam.

Total recovery made during investigation has reached over Rs17 crore.

The scam came to light after the arrest of Jadeja and his wife, with Rs1.98 crore cash in May last year.

The Ashok Jadeja case is being investigated by the state CID crime.
