The electioneering for the November 7 bye-elections to the Kannur assembly constituency gained momentum today with Congress and BJP nominees filing nominations at the District Collectorate here.

The opposition UDF nominee AP Abdulla Kutty, who recently joined Congress after his expulsion from the CPI-M, and BJP candidate K Ranjith filed their papers before the additional district magistrate Vasudeva, official sources here said.

Meanwhile, UDF leaders today sought more time to file their appeal before the State Election Commission on the fresh voters list following allegations that bogus voters had been enrolled in revised list.

The authorities should give more time as holding elections on basis of hastly prepared voters list went against democratic norms, UDF election convener Sunny Joseph told reporters here.
