A former president of the district Congress was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad district.

LUCKNOW: A former president of the district Congress was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad district, a police official said on Sunday.

"The former district president of the Congress, V. Tiwari, was sprayed with bullets late Saturday night at his residence," L. Shukla, senior superintendent of police of Allahabad, said.

The motorcycle-borne assailants shot dead Tiwari and fled from the spot, he added.

The Congress activists have taken to the streets here to demand immediate arrest of the assailants.

According to the police, the incident in Allahabad, about 200 km from Lucknow, appears to be a fallout of a political rivalry.
