Vikrambhai Arjanbhai Madam, Congress MP from Jamnagar, has lodged a complaint with Chanakyapuri Police that representatives of Cairn India Limited, which is allegedly trying to acquire land in his constituency for a 670-km gas pipeline between Rajasthan and Gujarat without adequately compensating farmers, threatened him at his official residence in New Delhi after he protested the deprivation.

“On March 7 evening, an official of Cairn India and another from L&T came to my official residence (47-49, South Avenue). They offered Rs2 crore and tried to persuade me to not attend a scheduled meeting [of farmers and company officials in the presence of government officials and police] on March 11 [to settle the issue]. When I refused, they threatened me with dire consequences,” 52-year-old Arjanbhai, whose son-in-law reportedly owns an infrastructure company in Jamnagar, told DNA.

The company, however, rubbished the allegation.
