A murder convict who jumped parole 27 years ago from Gujarat and was running a chicken biryani shop here was arrested, police said today.

Fakrul Islam (44), who was living in a rented place in Bhagirathi Vihar of the city, was caught yesterday from the entry gate of Uttam Nagar bus terminal on a tip-off, deputy commissioner of police (West) Sharad Aggarwal said.

"Islam was released on parole in 1993 for seven days from Bhavnagar Jail and, since then, has been evading authorities,"
he said.

He was serving life sentence for murdering one Mohd Aslam after an argument in Gomtipur area of Ahmedabad in January 1988. Two other cases are also registered against him.

"During his jail tenure and being of very young age, he became frustrated and was planning to escape. He came out on parole in 1993 for seven days and then never returned," Aggarwal said.

Initially, he was hiding in Mumbai and later shifted base to Delhi. He along with his family started living in the congested area of Jaffrabad of north-east Delhi and started a chicken biryani shop in Lalita Park of Laxmi Nagar.
