Coronavirus LIVE updates: Global cases cross 9 lakh, 1,834 in India

The confirmed cases in India stand at 1,637 and the number of deaths recorded is 38, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Wednesday.

The number of positive coronavirus cases in India crossed1,600 on Tuesday as the global death toll due to the deadly virus crossed 42,000.

The highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra where the count has reached 320. Fifty-nine new cases were recorded from Mumbai on Tuesday. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said the sudden jump in the number of patients was because the number of testing facilities has gone up. 

Kerala Tuesday reported its second COVID-19 death and seven new cases of coronavirus. Four people were declared cured on Tuesday while 215 positive cases remained under treatment in hospitals across the state, the government said. 

Worldwide, coronavirus cases continue to rise dramatically, with the number of infections nearing 8 lakh on Tuesday. The global death toll has crossed 42,000. 

The US has the most cases with over 188,000, followed by Italy at 105,792, Spain 95,923 and China at 82,279. Italy has recorded the highest number of deaths with 12,428, followed by Spain's death toll of 8,464, US' 3,873, France's 3,523 and China's 3,308. 

China, where the outbreak was first reported, is now fourth in terms of the number of cases and fifth when it comes to the death toll.
