Corporator held for abusing woman in Pune

Yusuf was granted spot bail by the police on Sunday, but the other suspects were produced in the court of judicial magistrate for seeking 14 days' magisterial custody.

The newly elected Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator, Yusuf Noorkhan Pathan (50), his son Aslam Yusuf Pathan (24) and Nawab Noorkhan Pathan (37) were arrested by the Chatuhshrungi police on Sunday for allegedly outraging the modesty of a 52-year-old resident of Janwadi.

According to the police complaint, the victim, along with others, was distributing plastic buckets at the Savitribai Phule hall in Janwadi where Pathan and the other two arrested suspects manhandled and verbally abused the victim.

Yusuf was granted spot bail by the police on Sunday, but the other suspects were produced in the court of judicial magistrate (first class), PK Deshpande, for seeking 14 days' magisterial custody.

The suspects' bail applications, moved through their lawyer, Shashikant Nimhan, were opposed by assistant public prosecutor RD Parmaj on the ground that the crime took place out of political rivalry and needs to be investigated.

The court granted both of them bail on personal bond of Rs5,000 each.

Mobike robbers run riot
Three separate incidents of chain snatching took place in the city in broad daylight on Sunday, all within a span of one-and-a-half hours. The suspects in all the cases were on motorcycle.
In Swargate area, Vaishali Bhandari (35), a homemaker, was going to another housing society when two youths on a motorcycle attacked her, snatched her gold chain valued at Rs20,000 and sped away. The incident took place at 1.30 pm. The victim lodged a first information report (FIR) at Swargate police station on Sunday.


In Kothrud, Vimal Lonare (43) of New Shantinagar Vasahat, lodged an FIR against two unidentified persons. She was returning home from the market at 1 pm when two persons on a motorcycle snatched her chain, valued at Rs30,000 and sped away. Senior inspector, Chandrakanth Ghodke is probing the case.


Sumitra Mohite (50) of Indiranagar in Bibvewadi was attacked by two youths on a motorcycle when she was returning home at noon. She lodged an FIR at Sahakarnagar police station, stating that the suspects snatched her gold chain (valued at Rs97,500) and sped away.
