CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday issued a notice to the Punjab Government on the bail plea filed by former state Director General of Police S S Virk, who has been arrested on corruption charges.
Justice H S Bhalla further directed the state of Punjab to place on record the medical report of Virk, who was admitted to the PGI hospital here after his arrest from the Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi on September nine.
The court directed the Punjab government to reply tothe notice by October 30.
Earlier this month, the District and Session Judge Rupnagar Rekha Mittal had dismissed the bail application of Virk and co-accused Vijay Pal Singh Dimpy arrested by Punjab Vigilance Bureau in a case of land grabbing and criminal conspiracy.
Virk also faces another case of disproportionate assets.
The former DGP is presently in judicial custody till October 22 and is undergoing treatment at PGI.
Virk, a Maharashtra cadre IPS officer of the 1971 batch, was charged with doing business while in service, harbouring a person wanted by law, giving him a fake identity on basis of false record to screen him from law and Prevention of Corruption Act.
The senior IPS officer and Dimpy have been accused of grabbing land of a war widow for which Virk had taken services of Dimpy and a former terrorist Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi.
