COVID-19 update: India records 42,015 new coronavirus cases, 3,998 deaths as Maharashtra revises data

The recovery rate has increased to 97.36%. The daily positivity rate is at 2.27%, less than 3% for 30 straight days in a major sign of relief.

India recorded 42,015 new COVID-19 cases and 3,998 deaths in the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Wednesday. With this, total cases have risen to 3,12,16,337. Nearly 37,000 recoveries were reported on Tuesday, as per the Union Health Ministry. 

India recorded a single-day rise of 3,998 COVID-19 fatalities with Maharashtra carrying out its 14th COVID data reconciliation exercise, pushing the country's death toll to 4,18,480 while 42,015 new infections were reported, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

Maharashtra's deaths tally increase by 3,656 with 3,509 cases of old deaths.

The recovery rate has increased to 97.36%. The daily positivity rate is at 2.27%, less than 3% for 30 straight days in a major sign of relief. 

Active cases show a rise, from 4.06 lakh on Monday to 4.07 lakh on Tuesday. In Kerala, there are more than 1.26 lakh active cases now.

Single-day testing stands at 18.52 lakh and total vaccinations at 34.25 lakh. The seven-day average for vaccinations remains above 38 lakh to 38.21 lakh.

A total of 41,18,46,401 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country so far. While 3,03,53,710 have recovered from the disease to date.

Also, 17,73,41,133 tests were conducted on Sunday taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 to 44,73,41,133.

Meanwhile, a doctor in Assam was found to be infected by two different coronavirus variants of concern, both Alpha and Delta. But her condition is nothing to be alarmed about, according to officials.
