Backing Bihar chief minister's decision to return the aid money given by his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi to the victims of Kosi river flood, CPI today suggested that Nitish Kumar should sever ties with communal BJP ahead of the assembly polls in the state.
"It is high time that Nitish Kumar severed ties with the communal BJP ... It is the lust for power that has kept JD(U) and BJP together so far in Bihar," CPI national secretary Atul Kumar Anjan and state secretary BN Lal said supporting Kumar in returning Rs5 crore aid to Modi did not mean that the party had entered into electoral alliance with JD(U).
Likewise it had not entered into any poll alliance with RJD-LJP though CPI had supported the combine's candidates in the recently concluded biennial elections to Rajya Sabha.
The two CPI leaders said the Left parties would be together contesting 150 out of total 243 assembly seats in Bihar and a dialogue was already on between the party, CPI(M), CPI-ML (Liberation), Fowrad Bloc and RSP for seat adjustment.
The CPI has identified 60 seats which it would contest on its own in case of Left alliance did not take shape in Bihar, they said.
Anjan and Lal demanded that the Centre issue a white paper on Bhopal gas tragedy.
"Congress owes an apology to the nation for providing safe passage to Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson," Anjan said adding alleged that the head of Bhopal Memorial Trust Hospital AM Ahmadi was a 'conspirator' as he had diluted the charges in the gas tragedy case as the then chief justice of India.
