'Appropriate legal action should be taken against all the perpetrators who were involved in this serious crime and violation of human rights,' the party Politburo said in a statement.

Expressing shock at the killing of three Kashmiri youths in which names of some army personnel have cropped up, the CPI(M) today demanded legal action against the perpetrators and steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

"Appropriate legal action should be taken against all the perpetrators who were involved in this serious crime and violation of human rights," the party Politburo said in a statement here.

The party said the government should take all necessary steps to stop the recurrence of such incidents.

The CPI(M) expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of the families of the three youths who lost their lives.

Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested three persons including a territorial army jawan for allegedly luring the three youths to the border and staging a 'fake encounter' in Machil sector of north Kashmir. Name of an Army Major has also cropped up in the case.

The incident took place on April 30 when 4 Rajputana Rifles of Army claimed to have shot dead three militants who were attempting to enter into the valley from across the border. However, the claim of the army was contested by the family members of Muhammad Shafi, Shehzad Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed who said they were not militants.
